How a player gets an 18mth ban for 'man-handling' a referee reduced to 10 weeks just amazes me.
That is it for me. I was going to ref full-time this year but was persuaded into one more season of playing. I'm sorry but I will never ref full-time when if I get punched the player gets 10 weeks. I saw a similar incident in touch football and the player got 3 years. If he was charged with assault he would get at least a 1 year bond and a criminal record.
Again sorry, but this same club seems to always support players who are involved in extreme cases of violent conduct and it is one rule for this club and another for everyone else. Violence against a ref must have a maximum ban. If you can get 8-12 weeks for abusive language to a ref, 10 weeks is just pathetic.
I'll finish this season as a player/ref and that will be the end of it.

Hi.....I believe you have read the Manly Daily and saw the snippet on a Player who had a reduced suspension after an appeals hearing. In fact you have "mixed" up 2 different cases. I don't need to go into detail, but the 10 weeks was in fact from an incident on the park earlier this season where contact with a referee was made, at the judiciary FNSW sentencing was given of 12months suspension. After the appeals hearing and listening to the player and the 2 officials the sentence was reduced to 12 games and 12 suspended.
